Advancing Patient-Centered Research through PPI at LUKS<\/h4>

<\/p>

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) transforms research by centering it around the needs and priorities of patients. Evidence shows that nearly 72% of research outcomes do not reflect what matters to patients.<\/p>

PPI addresses this problem by involving patients and caregivers as active collaborators throughout the research process\u2014from shaping research questions to evaluating results.<\/p>

At Luzerner Kantonsspital (LUKS), there is currently no standardized approach to PPI. This research project aims to change that by laying the groundwork for a sustainable, inclusive PPI framework at LUKS and in central Switzerland.<\/p>

Through surveys and interviews, we will assess current awareness and engagement among researchers, patients, and caregivers at LUKS and the University of Lucerne. Feedback collected via MeinLUKS and targeted interviews will help identify motivators, barriers, and opportunities for more diverse, inclusive participation.<\/p>

Key project goals include:<\/strong><\/p>

  1. Understanding the current status and needs for PPI in the region.<\/li>
  2. Promoting sociocultural diversity in research participation.<\/li>
  3. Exploring how PPI can improve health literacy and foster solidarity.<\/li>
  4. Laying the foundation for a PPI advisory board and consultation service.<\/li>
  5. Creating a teaching platform for PPI collaborators (patients, families, caregivers).<\/li><\/ol>

    With the foundation\u2019s support, this research project positions LUKS as a leader in patient-centered research and builds the infrastructure for long-term collaboration between healthcare professionals and the communities they serve.<\/p>
