Prostate Cancer Early Detection in Canton Lucerne – How Can We Reach as Many Men as Possible?

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and the second most common cause of cancer death in Switzerland. Unlike colorectal and breast cancer, no canton currently has an organized screening program.

For the first time, LUKS is investigating how well men between the ages of 50 and 65 respond to different early detection offerings. The study compares in-person counseling at outreach events, written invitations by letter, and spontaneous screening visits.

A simple blood test (PSA test) is used for screening. The results will provide a crucial basis for future screening programs – not only in Lucerne, but across all of Switzerland.
